Short version: Your gambling diary stays on your iPhone or iPad, and in your own private iCloud if you turn on sync. Wager Ledger has no account and no servers, and it sends nothing to us. We can't see your sessions, W-2Gs, photos, or totals. When you export your diary, it goes only where you send it.
Who we are
DK4G Technologies, LLC (“DK4G,” “we,” “us”) publishes Wager Ledger, an app for keeping a record of gambling sessions for tax purposes. This policy explains what the app stores and what, if anything, leaves your device.
What Wager Ledger stores on your device
Everything you enter is saved in the app's storage on your device:
- Sessions: dates and times, time zone, establishment name and address, game details, machine or table numbers, amounts in and out, where your money came from, names of people present, notes, and tickets, jackpots, and markers you record
- Tax records you enter: Forms W-2G (including the payer's name, address, and tax ID number as printed on the form), casino win/loss and online account statements, and gambling expenses
- Photos you choose to attach, such as tickets, W-2Gs, and receipts, with a fingerprint (SHA-256) of each so your export can show it hasn't changed
- The record history the app keeps on purpose: when each entry was first logged, every later edit with its reason, and sessions you've deleted
- Settings: the name printed on your diary, your spouse's name if you file jointly, and preferences such as the selected tax year
- Purchase status needed to unlock Pro after an Apple In-App Purchase
The app doesn't ask for your Social Security number, and we suggest storing only the last 4 digits of player's card and account numbers.
What we don't do
- No account or sign-in
- No DK4G servers: your diary is never uploaded to us
- No analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs
- No sale or sharing of personal information
- No access to your contacts, camera, or microphone
- No access to your photo library. When you add a photo, iOS shows its own picker and gives the app only the photos you pick.
- No real-money gambling, betting links, or odds
Location (only if you ask)
When you log a session, you can tap Find casinos near me. Only then does iOS ask whether Wager Ledger may use your location. If you allow it, the app uses your location once, on your device, to sort its built-in casino list by distance and to ask Apple Maps for casinos in your area. Apple handles that search under Apple's privacy policy. Your location is not stored by the app, is not added to your diary, and is never sent to us. You can turn location access off at any time in the iOS Settings app.
The casino you pick is saved with its name, address, and map coordinates so you can choose it again. That stays on your device like the rest of your diary.
Face ID lock
You can turn on Require Face ID (or Touch ID) in Settings. iOS checks your face or fingerprint and only tells the app whether it matched; the app never receives or stores your face or fingerprint data. If it doesn't match, you can use your device passcode.
Other people's names
The IRS asks gamblers to record the names of other people present. Names you enter stay on your device with the rest of your diary and leave it only if you export or share your diary.
Exports
When you export a PDF or CSV files, the app creates them on your device and opens the iOS share sheet. You decide where they go: for example, email to your tax preparer, AirDrop, or Files. Once shared, the copy is handled by whatever app or person you sent it to. We never receive a copy.
Optional iCloud sync
- Off by default. Turn it on in Settings → iCloud to keep your diary on all your devices signed in to the same Apple ID.
- When it's on, your diary, W-2Gs, statements, expenses, and photos are copied to your private iCloud database (container
iCloud.com.dk4g.wagerdiary). That database belongs to your Apple ID. DK4G does not run it and cannot read it. Apple's handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple's privacy policy and terms. - Turning sync off stops syncing and keeps everything on the device. A copy may stay in iCloud until you remove Wager Ledger's data for your Apple ID (Settings app → your name → iCloud → Manage Storage).
Backups
Unless you turn on iCloud sync, Wager Ledger doesn't back up your diary itself. If you use iCloud Backup or back up your device to a computer, iOS may include the app's data in that backup under Apple's terms. Because the phone may be your only copy, we recommend exporting your diary regularly and keeping the records as long as the IRS may review your return (generally at least 3 years after filing).
In-App Purchases
- Wager Ledger Pro is sold through Apple In-App Purchase (per tax year or lifetime).
- Apple handles payment, receipts, refunds, and restoring purchases. We don't receive your payment card details.
- Apple provides the app with the purchase status it needs to unlock what you bought.
Apple's handling of payment data is governed by Apple's own privacy policy and terms.
Links
The built-in casino list comes from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, Open Database License) and is part of the app; looking something up in it doesn't contact anyone. The list itself is published at wagerdiary-casinos.csv.
The app links to Apple's standard Terms of Use, this website, and problem-gambling resources (1-800-GAMBLER and the National Council on Problem Gambling). Those sites have their own privacy practices.
Support email
If you email us, we receive what you send, usually your email address and your message. We use it only to reply and to fix problems you report. Please don't email us your diary or tax documents unless we ask for a specific detail to solve a problem.
Website technical logs
This page is served by standard hosting and CDN infrastructure, which may process routine technical logs such as IP address and request details. That is separate from the app, which sends us nothing.
Age
Wager Ledger is meant for adults of legal gambling age. It isn't directed to children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices
- Edit or delete sessions and records in the app at any time. Deleted sessions are kept in Settings → Deleted sessions so your tax record stays complete. You can restore them there.
- Delete the app to remove all of its data from the device (copies in device backups follow Apple's backup rules).
- Manage purchases and refunds through Apple.
Not tax advice
Wager Ledger helps you keep records. Its tax figures are estimates, and nothing in the app or on this site is tax or legal advice.
Changes
If our practices change, for example if we add optional iCloud sync, we'll update this page and the effective date before that version ships.
